World Bee Day: our Greenway entity sponsors a beehive

Bzzz... May 20, 2018 is World Bee Day, a reminder of their indispensable role in protecting the environment and maintaining food security!

Did you know?

Bees are essential to nature and mankind. By gathering pollen, they enable plants to reproduce and bear fruit, and are responsible for 80% of the world's food. The end of bees would mean the end of flower pollination, and therefore the end of jams, fruit juices, chocolate, coffee, almonds...

Labatut Group's Green Distribution Sector contributes to saving bees

For several years now, Greenway, a subsidiary of the green retailer Labatut Group, has been committed to saving bees through the organization Un toit pour les abeilles. Greenway supports a beekeeper by sponsoring one of his hives in the Marais Poitevin in Vendée.

Why and how to sponsor a beehive?

For over 10 years, Un toit pour les abeilles has been offering individuals and professionals the chance to sponsor beehives. The aim of this nationwide movement is to protect and increase the number of bee colonies. In total, over 25,000 sponsors and 1,100 companies have guaranteed the survival of nearly 150 million bees!

Creating a beehive means giving bees a roof over their heads so they can make their honey in peace. A bee forages for around 700 flowers a day within a radius of 3 km. The Greenway hive is home to between 10,000 and 40,000 bees.

Nearly 50 beekeepers throughout France are part of the Un toit pour les abeilles adventure. Greenway has sponsored one of the hives of Claude POIROT, a committed beekeeper for 40 years. He owns 600 hives in the Vendée and Charente Maritime regions of France. We chose to help him develop his Triaize apiary in the heart of the Marais Poitevin.

Sponsoring a beehive means giving birth to a new colony of bees. This approach enables Greenway to convey its commitment to protecting the environment, just as it does on a daily basis with its own deliveries. The established pricing policy enables beekeepers to perpetuate their activity. As a reward, the sponsor receives jars of honey from his or her own hive. It's a win-win situation!
